Do you know how your mechanic starts the diagnostic process with your car? Check out this video from the Car Care Council.
Getting the "code" that your car is sending out is just the first step. It tells you where the issue is, but not how it occurred. If you just replace the bad part, you may not have fixed the cause. That means you could soon have a bad part again. Often the code can help a knowledgeable do-it-yourselfer diagnose and fix the issue. Make sure you know the whole story before you trust just a code.
