New EPA Refrigerant Regulations in 2018

December 19, 2017

Effective January 1, 2018, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is requiring that any person who repairs or services a motor vehicle air conditioning (MVAC) system must be properly trained and certified under Section 608 or 609 of the Clean Air Act by an EPA-approved program. The purchase of 30 lb. cylinders of R134a is restricted to those that are 609 certified. The purchase of R22, R402 and R404 are restricted to those that are 608 certified.

At least one technician at your shop will need to be certified in order to purchase refrigerant and we will also require a copy of the certification for our recordkeeping under the new requirements.
