When the gasket on the original equipment variable valve timing (VVT) spool valve fails on VTEC engines on certain Acura and Honda vehicles, the dealer only offers a complete, costly valve assembly as a replacement. But Honda has acknowledged the bottom half of the factory spool valve usually isn't necessary to replace, instructing its dealership technicians in one service bulletin to simply dispose of that bottom half of the new assembly when it arrives instead of going through the effort to replace it. This Dorman OE FIX VVT spool valve is designed to save money by enabling the replacement of just the top half of the spool valve and the failed gaskets, saving unnecessary expense, helping to restore engine performance, and eliminating oil leaks that can land on and destroy the alternator.
