Protect your engine by knowing the facts. Picking the right filter can protect your engine and promote long engine life.
Do I need a synthetic oil filter?
Oil is the lifeblood of the engine. Plain and simple. But as the oil circulates through the engine, it picks up any number of contaminants – dirt. That dirt can damage your engine. The more contaminants that pass into your engine, the more it will reduce the engine's life. And the better quality an oil filter is, the better job it will do in filtering those contaminants.
Why you may want to pick a higher quality oil filter.
One of the biggest challenges that all oil filters have to cope with today is longer service life. OEM-recommended oil change intervals for “normal” driving today can range from 5,000 to 7,500 miles, or up to 10,000 miles or more. That’s a long time for a standard oil filter to remain in service!
Select the best oil filter that is listed for your engine. Many premium filters can go 10,000 miles or more. In any event, extended oil service intervals may require both synthetic motor oil and a premium quality filter.
It’s always best to consult your car’s owner’s manual and follow the manufacturer’s specified instructions.
