Washington, D.C. — The Auto Care Association held its annual Fall Leadership Days in conjunction with a Legislative Summit September 18 - 20 in Washington D.C. Arnold Motor Supply was represented by Eric Johnson, Kyle Byrne and Andy Bergstrom along with auto care professionals from across the country. The group spent Wednesday afternoon and evening in preparation for meetings with legislators on Capitol Hill to discuss key issues in the auto care industry. The message to legislators covered two main points, vehicle data and international trade.

“We take the stance that vehicle owners should have the right to say who gets access to their vehicle’s repair and diagnostic data,” said Eric Johnson, Vice President of Information Systems at Arnold Motor Supply. “The data generated by new vehicles should belong to and be controlled by vehicle owners in order to preserve competition, choice and affordability in the vehicle service market. We support a federal mandate requiring consumer access to and control over vehicle data,” Johnson continued.

Arnold Motor Supply is urging congress to pass the USMCA and reduce trade uncertainty. The auto care industry is a global industry that relies on complex supply chains. Tariffs and trade wars create uncertainty and raise costs for U.S. businesses and consumers. They support the USMCA as well as legislation that gives Congress more oversight over tariffs and we stressed the importance of trade for our local agricultural industry which is the key to our economy.

While in D.C., the Arnold Motor Supply team discussed industry issues in meetings in the offices of Nebraska Senators Deb Fisher and Ben Sasse, Iowa Senators Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst, members of the House of Representatives Steve King and Cindy Axne from Iowa and Don Bacon from Nebraska.
